The Rider-Pool Foundation

Message from the Executive Director April 2020

Dear Colleagues, Friends, Partners, and Lehigh Valley Neighbors:

Now past the first month of the COVID-19 shut-down, The Dorothy Rider Pool Health Care Trust and The Rider-Pool Foundation remain at work.

While out of the office, we are still focused on the strategies most important to The Trust and The Foundation. Among these, the vital role of clear, valid information to our healthcare and social systems stands out as a priority. For those seeking information, we offer:

We remain committed to our proactive grantmaking and are in touch with current grantee organizations to be adaptive in the moment without losing sight of long-term goals. The Pool Trust continues to support initiatives at Lehigh Valley Health Network that are both immediate and innovative in the midst of this crisis. We acknowledge the expertise and dedication of the LVHN staff, medical teams, and leadership to manage care, logistics, and recovery for patients in our community.

Where we can and how we can, we are assisting joint efforts of programming for meals, housing, and general virus messaging. Activities from organizations working to continue vital services as well as many remarkable grass-roots efforts of neighbors assisting neighbors in the city of Allentown are both impressive and effective. We applaud this tireless work.

Within these efforts, we have actively engaged the community of 63 Collective Impact Fellows from The Rider-Pool Foundation Fellowship program. Many are tapping their trusted relationships with each other to address immediate demands and share resources for frontline programs. The moments of success that stem from these partnerships will serve as valuable and inspiring examples in the future.

This extended time of limited contact, loss of work, and widespread illness for many has changed the course of this year and the state of our community in ways that may remain unknown for some time. What is known is the strength and determination of uncountable employees, volunteers, and residents in the Lehigh Valley.

Please stay safe and healthy,

Edward F. Meehan
Executive Director
